Jewellery care

Silver is alive. Treat your pieces with care: they'll last a lifetime.

01 · Small gestures

Everyday wear

Small everyday gestures extend the life of your pieces. A little attention goes a long way, and there are moments when it's worth taking them off.

  • Take off gold-plated rings before washing your hands. Pure silver can handle a quick rinse, but take it off whenever you can.
  • Take off all pieces before showering, swimming in the sea or pool, or exercising. Soaps, chlorine, salt, and sweat speed up silver oxidation and wear away gold plating.
  • Apply perfumes, creams, and sunscreen before putting on the piece. Let your skin dry first.
  • Avoid sleeping in your jewellery. Night-time friction warps rings, strains clasps, and wears away gold plating.
02 · Maintenance

Cleaning

Silver reacts with your skin, the air, the creams you use. With some care, it stays beautiful for years.

After wearing, wipe each piece with a soft, dry cloth. This simple gesture removes the day's moisture and residue, and keeps silver from darkening.

For a deeper clean on pure silver, use a silver polishing cloth. A few minutes is all it takes. Never use harsh chemicals.

If oxidation persists, there's an effective home method: line a container with aluminium foil, add a tablespoon of baking soda and a teaspoon of salt, pour in boiling water, and let it work for a few minutes. The chemical reaction restores silver's shine without scrubbing.

On gold-plated pieces, never use a silver polishing cloth or the aluminium method. Clean only with mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth.

What to avoid

  • Abrasive or general-purpose cleaners.
  • Bleach, acetone, alcohol, and solvents.
  • Metal scourers or stiff brushes.
  • Toothpaste, even when it's recommended online as a quick fix.
  • Towels or paper tissues for polishing, even when they feel soft. The fibres leave micro-scratches.
03 · Where to store

Storage

Store each piece in a fabric pouch or a separate box. This prevents scratches and keeps silver's original shine.

Moisture is silver's biggest enemy. Choose a dry spot, away from the bathroom and from windows with direct sunlight.

  • One pouch or compartment per piece.
  • A dry, cool place, with no direct light.
  • Don't store gold-plated pieces with pure silver pieces.
  • Wipe everything before storing, with no creams or perfume on the piece.
  • In humid months, silica gel or anti-tarnish strips inside the box help keep the air dry.
04 · More delicate

Gold-plated silver

Gold plating is a thin layer over silver. Treat these pieces as more delicate: extra care keeps them shining for much longer.

Take the piece off before washing your hands, showering, swimming, or exercising. Water, soap, chlorine, salt, and sweat wear the plating away faster.

Apply perfumes, creams, and sunscreen before putting on the piece, never after. Wait until your skin is dry.

  • Take it off before washing your hands, showering, swimming, or exercising.
  • Avoid perfumes, creams, and prolonged sweat in direct contact.
  • Clean with a soft, dry cloth, with no abrasive polishers.
  • Store separately from pure silver pieces.

Over time, gold plating naturally loses some intensity. When that happens, we can re-plate your piece. Get in touch and we'll explain how it works.
